Frequently Asked Questions
What’s a Celebrant?
What’s a Celebrant? That was my first question when I learned about a woman who was honouring people’s milestone moments with beauty, flare and flourish.
It wasn’t long before I went looking to find out everything I could about Celebrants and their work. I learned that the first modern Celebrants started “Down Under” – yes, Australia. In the 1970s the Australian Attorney General acknowledged social change and the need for trained people who could perform meaningful formal ceremonies, particularly marriages, outside of traditional avenues. People were looking for alternative ceremonies, with all of the depth and substance of traditional paths, but apart from the usual choices. In 1973 the first Australian Celebrant was appointed. Since then Celebrants perform over seventy percent of marriages and the majority of other ceremonies in Australia.
The rest of the world is catching on. Thousands of Celebrant ceremonies are now designed and performed by Celebrants in many countries. I am very proud and happy to be part of the wave of certified, professional Life-Cycle Celebrants™ who bring deep meaning and significance to the art of ceremony in Canada.

Why choose a Life-Cycle Celebrant ceremony?
“Good work that leaves the world softer and fuller and better than ever before is the stuff of which human satisfaction and spiritual value are made.” Joan Chittister
Our lives are made up of stories. Your story is unique to you, like your fingerprint or your signature. Your ceremony should be a mirror you can hold up and say, “Yes, that’s me” or “Yup, that’s us.” It ought to be the best reflection of you there is, and everyone who witnesses it will recognize the “you” in what they see. It should reflect and echo you – your values, your sensibilities, your quirks, your cherished memories. It should be part of you. Nothing compares to an unforgettable ceremony experience that shines with your special light.
Your ceremony is the reason for the day, for the celebration, for the culmination of a lifetime of dreams. Your ceremony is at the heart of your day. You will want to choose a Celebrant who is a good match to your dream. If we are a good fit for one another I will guide you and co-create with you to ensure that your ceremony mirrors your spirit and your heart’s desire.
First we will talk on the phone, and then, if you like, we will meet. There is no fee and no obligation at that meeting. It is a chance for us to talk about your vision.
How do you make it unique to us?
I work closely with you to fashion a well-woven, bespoke ceremony. This relaxed, friendly, creative back-and-forth process, mostly by email, will go on until you are 100% pleased with what I have co-created with you.
Do you attend the reception, or the rehearsal dinner?
I always appreciate invitations to your celebrations, but I do not attend these functions. These are special times for you to spend with your friends and family.
How long is a ceremony?
You will choose exactly what you want, including the length of our ceremonial time together. Sometimes it is a touch longer than most, but no one will be thinking about time, they will be focused on you.
You will definitely get your money’s worth, and you and your guests will remember your ceremony long after the day is over.
Custom? How much do you charge?
Do you believe your ceremony should be the pinnacle of your wedding?
Custom Life-Cycle Celebrant™ weddings are written and designed exclusively for you.
Your ceremony will be distinctive for three reasons:
1. I don’t use templates – I write every word.
2. I design the ceremony in its entirety.
3. It is yours and yours alone.
Custom Wedding Ceremonies cost more than template ceremonies. You can buy a dress off the rack and it can look good, but, if you hire a talented designer to make a dress for you it will suit you to a T. It will be exactly, precisely right in cut, colour, texture and fit. A custom ceremony compares to that – made for you. What could be better?
