Brett and Terra were married on the windy shore of Lake Huron. Their tandem bicycle leaned against a nearby tree.

Brett owns the bicycle shop in Southampton. It was natural to write a love story that highlighted the bike they would ride following the ceremony.

The story began like this…

A bike crash.
That can be scary, but sometimes a sudden accident can bring a fateful insight.
Brett and Terra were riding their tandem bicycle home one evening. Brett was trying to navigate through a construction site full of obstacles. Down they went. This was a pivotal moment for Brett.  He said, “not only did she NOT yell at me, she got back on!” He knew in an instant that he and Terra were going to be together forever.

Terra and Brett’s talented photographer Jennifer O’Reilly brought their story to life. A tandem bicycle is a romantic conveyance, whether you see it at a modern wedding or the image of it goes all the way back to 1892, when Harry Dacre wrote the popular tune Daisy Bell, a huge hit in the Music Hall in its day. The song may be very old, but chances are you know the tune….

Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer, do,
I’m half crazy all for the love of you.
It won’t be a stylish marriage,
I can’t afford a carriage,
But you’d look sweet upon the seat
Of a bicycle built for two.
We will go tandem as man and wife,
Daisy, Daisy,
Ped’ling away down the road of life,
I and my Daisy Bell.
When the road’s dark, we can both despise
P’licemen and lamps as well.
There are bright lights in the dazzling eyes
Of beautiful Daisy Bell.
